Zachary Shea - Woodworking
Arcata Artisan since 2017
I was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where I first studied art. I apprenticed with an architectural photographer, learning composition and dark room techniques. When I moved to California 25 years ago, I discovered the beauty of wood sculpture. Salvaging discarded wood scraps from construction sites, recycling old-growth wood that was headed for the landfill, I learned how to bring the material back to life.
The infinite beauty in nature is what inspires my art. I've had a studio in a barn in Bayside, CA for 15 years, making art furniture, ornamental sculpture, wall art, bowls, platters and more. I especially love to make freeform bowls using a variety of hand and power tools, never with a lathe.
