Patricia Sennott - Printmaking
Arcata Artisan since 2012
A little bit about Patricia…
Originally from the Midwest, I studied Art at the University of Kentucky and in Denmark before moving to Arcata. After graduating from Humboldt State University I painted on silk with French dyes, creating both wearable art and wall hangings. I then spent three years teaching art in elementary and high school on the tiny island of Tinian in the Mariana Islands of the Western Pacific. My work there transitioned from silk painting to traditional transparent watercolor, mainly botanicals, which I have enjoyed for many years. The painterly form of printmaking called Monotype beckoned though. I began pursuing that medium with a workshop on Guam, a week at Bennington College in Vermont and then classes at Kala Institute in Berkeley CA and at The Ink People Center For The Arts in Eureka CA. Currently I continue to work in Monotype printmaking, portraying mainly birds, bees and botanicals. Also I enjoy creating in Cyanotype, one of the oldest methods of photography, usually with a distinctive blue color. In making a Cyanotype, harvested and pressed botanicals are placed on heavy treated paper and put outside in the sun so that their shapes appear; after processing and drying, I then add watercolor to the plant shape areas. Both methods of my art practice are influenced by hikes in nearby forests and mountains and by my Blue Lake garden. Visitors are welcome by appointment at my Northtown Arcata studio in Stewart School. I enjoy working on commissions in a variety of media
